all set for a Lifestyle check vs Espino…..Roxas

The Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) has convened an investigating body that will look into allegations that Pangasinan Governor Amado Espino Jr. has been receiving money from operators of the illegal numbers game “jueteng”.
DILG Secretary Manuel Roxas II said the investigating body will be led by the department’s undersecretary for administration, finance and legal services Rafael Santos, and undersecretary for local government concerns Austere Panadero.
Roxas said the body has already asked Espino to comment on allegations made by Bugallon town mayor Rodrigo Orduna that the governor has already received an estimated P900 million in jueteng money, and has consequently been a protector of illegal gambling operators in the province.
The DILG has also tapped the assistance of the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR), the Anti-Money Laundering Council (AMLC) and other government agencies, to help in investigating the accusations against Espino.
Roxas said the AMLC and the BIR will be asked, among other things, to conduct a lifestyle check on the Pangasinan governor. This, even as the DILG secretary stressed that Espino will be accorded due process in the investigation.
“Dadaan ito sa proseso. Hindi basta-basta i-suspend,” Roxas said. (This will go through the proper process. We will not arbitrarily suspend him.)
