Lingayen- – -Sustainable poultry and livestock backyard business will further be enhanced and promoted in Pangasinan with the conduct of a two-day poultry and livestock expo and goat congress on May 23 and 24 at the Pangasinan Training and Development Center (PTDC) here sponsored by PILMICO Foods Corporation in coordination with the provincial government and the Department of Agriculture.
Hendel Cabral, PILMICO Vice President for Sales, during a press conference held at Pedrito’s Restaurant in Dagupan City on May 22, said that the expo which was first held in Cebu last November 2012 is staged in Pangasinan as the province is considered to have the largest backyard swine population in Luzon with more than 211,000 heads based on inventory of the Bureau of Animal Industry.
Cabral noted that with said data, PILMICO is willing to launch its pilot project in Pangasinan which is financing-related in the near future.
“Pangasinan is primarily an agricultural province and if some of these areas be converted into livestock backyards, the province can become sparkplug in increasing backyard population in the country to grow once again,” the PILMICO executive said as he further noted that they are encouraging small-scale business in the province as the area is specifically surrounded by good demand centers such as Baguio City, Tarlac and Pampanga.
Meanwhile, Maria Luisa Elduayan, Chief of Tourism Division, said that the province is thankful for the opportunity and the exposure that the two-day expo can bring in terms of tourism.
This, she said, will entice a lot of visitors aside from the expected participants to experience the festive atmosphere it has to offer with several activities slated during the two-day expo highlighted by seminar (on farm management, breeding, healthcare and nutrition), pig show, chicken show, and aerial cockfighting tournament.
Food kiosks and booths are also set-up at the PTDC compound.
